Mao Zedong Cult of Personality – World History 1815-Present

Hello I am currently enrolled in World History 1815-Present class. This question is from the book Civilizations Past and Present Volume 2 (from 1300) (12th edition), Chapter 29 to be exact. The cult of Mao Zedong, or Mao-worship, began in the 1930s when Zedong emerged as the leader of the Communist Party of China. By the 1950s, Zedong’s image was ubiquitous, enshrined in both private homes and public places. Many Chinese even created family altars and temples in honor of Zedong.

View the image called Chairman Mao Goes to Anyuanhttps://smarthistory.org/liu-chunhua-chairman-mao-en-route-to-anyuan-2/, a famous painting of Zedong created by Liu Chunhua. The Party made the painting into a popular propaganda poster during the Cultural Revolution. The portrait depicts Zedong on his way to organize a worker’s strike in 1921. Read the Mao Zedong & the Revolution lecture and then examine the image below. Below are the questions that need to be answered in a maximum of 400 words:

“How does the painting depict Mao Zedong as a larger-than-life figure with great purpose and power? After reviewing the readings describe how the cult of personality of Mao Zedong contradicted the basic tenets of Communism.”
